There are more than 100 public high schools in the country, including a great many in Texas through the state’s T-STEM initiative, that give special focus to STEM education. These institutions produce graduates that are much more likely to pursue college degrees in STEM, according to a 2011 report from the National Research Council. What attributes of these schools are showing promise? What lessons can traditional high schools, public and private, draw from them to boost their own STEM efforts?
