David Alviar is the current Assistant Director of Communications and Operations of STEMscopes™, where he works on marketing, website content, and customer relationships. He began his career in education through Teach for America as a 5th departmentalized math and science teacher for English language learners in Houston ISD at Berry Elementary, an environmental science magnet.  Though students arrived on average 1.5 years below grade level in math and reading proficiency, David was able to help push Berry Elementary from near-unacceptable in math, reading, and science to exemplary in science and recognized in math and reading.  In addition, the vast majority of his students were able to competently perform on grade level appropriate tasks at the end of the academic year.  David received his bachelors in philosophy, economics, and Spanish literature from the University of Texas at Austin.
